On Saturday, 23rd October 2021, Referee Emmanuel Eshun, on Kessben Sports, on Kessben Tv, told the world that he officiated a match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
He awarded a clear last minute penalty to Anime Kudjo of Kotoko which won the club victory by 2 goals to
1. After officiating, Mr. Alex Kortey, the now National Referees’ Manager, questioned why he had awarded a penalty against Heart of Oak.
Though he vehemently justifies his decision on the articles of the rules, Mr. Kortey said he shouldnt have awarded the penalty against Hearts of Oak.
Bases on that, he has been suspended indefinitely for the penalty he awarded against Hearts of Oak.Another referee named Referee Turkson, also officiating, awarded penalties to both Hearts of Oak and Ashgold.
AshGold won the match as the Phoebians couldn’t master their chance. He too was question by the same Mr. Alex Kortey and was later suspended indefinitely.
Referee Eric Owusu Mensah, popularly known as Kala, has said that Referee George Mawuli Vermawor, officiated a NC match between Kotoko and Hearts.
Hearts lost by a clear penalty and the referee has been suspended.Referee Ben Sefah also officiated a match between Hearts and Chelsea in Accra.
Hearts lost to Chelsea and the referee has been suspended ever since.This attitude of his has put down the charisma of most referees and it seams a deliberate ploy to award officiation to only hearts-biased referees.
It must noted that all referees officiating matches in the last season in which hearts of Oak lost, have all been suspended.
Mr. Alex Kortey has planned to appoint referees to favour Hearts in all matches going forward.Based on the explanations by the referees themselves, we, the supporters of Asante Kotoko, have decided, in our resolve, to give the chairman of the Ghana Football Association, to immediately, remove Mr. lex Kortey from office as Referees’ manager and appoint a new referee’s manager.
Secondly, we compel the Management of Asante Kotoko, to, as a matter or urgency, following the aforementioned trajectory, to insist on removing Mr. Kortey from office and have an appropriate replacement therefore.
The management of Asante Kotoko, should, for fairness and expediency, withdraw from the pending premier league should the GFA acts otherwise.
