Add Security training in the curricular for Journalist-Dr.Kwesi Biney

A Security Analyst, Former Accredited Rep of International Security Organisation (iso-sec) in Ghana, A Leading Partner of African Center for Conflict Resolution, Peace and Security (Accreps) and Executive Board Member of International Human Rights commission- Switzerland (Ghana chapter), Dr. Franklin Kwesi Biney, is advocating for the inclusion of security training in the curricular for journalists in the country.

According to him this training would help journalists make informed decisions when going to cover stories deemed volatile.

Dr. Biney made the suggestion in an exclusive interview with Okyeame Kwedwo Abrantsea on Osimpam fm’s morning show, “Ghana Nsem”,.

“Knowing the type of event, would help them make the needed preparations, ask the right questions, know what is happening, where, the population and their attitude based on the security scan done”, he stressed.

His comments comes at the back of recent attacks on journalist when preferring solutions in addressing the challenges.

He disclosed, he has made several attempts both on Regional and national levels to impress on executives of the Ghana Journalist Association to contract him to offer the training to members but to no avail.

Dr. Kwesi Biney expressed regret that security personnel mandated by law to protect lives and property, rather turn around to manhandle civilians.

He added that even though the law allows them to use minimum force, they rather apply maximum force to intimidate people.
