Ebenezer Kofi Botsie, a Teacher Sentenced by Winneba High Court
A young man of about 35 years, Ebenezer Botsie, a.k.a.Shyne, has been asked by the Winneba High court to serve a 3 day prison sentence.
Ebenezer Kofi Bortsie, a.k.a shyne, who is a teacher at the Namanwura Day School, near Agona Duakwa, was charged with contempt of court.
In the heat of 2020 election campaign, there was a media reports that a substantial amount of money has been moved from someone’s bank account to the account of the NDC parliamentary candidate for Effutu Constituency, Dr. Kofi Annan.
Dr. Annan accused the NPP Member of parliament Hon. Alexandra Kwamena Afenyo Marki of masterminding the transfer of money into his account.
Hon.Markin after several unsuccessful calls on Dr. Annan for retraction, sued Dr. Annan at the Winneba High Court for defamation.
The Winneba High Court presided over by his Lordship, Justice Aboagye Tandoh, in March 2020, found Dr. Annan guilty. He was fined and asked to use the same medium he used to apologize to Hon. Markin, which he did.
However, Mr. Botsie took to social media to ridicule the court’s judgement, making fun and mockery of the apology request by the court.
Mr. Botsie for this reason was on 17th May, 2023, sentenced to 3 days imprisonment, to the Winneba prisons.
Additionally, he was fined ghc4,800 for his conduct against the Court, this he will pay to government before the expiration of his 3 day jail term, and in default, Ebenezer Kofi Bortsie would serve another 14 days in Prison custody.
