The Effutu Municipal Assembly in the central region on Monday June 20, 2022 presented 500 Metal dual desks to the Effutu Municipal Education Directorate to be distributed to sixteen selected basic schools in the Municipality.
The intervention is part of Government’s efforts at reducing infrastructure deficit in the education sector as well as making education accessible to children of school going age in the country.
Handing over the desks to the Municipal Director of Education, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, noted that the Municipal
Assembly under his stewardship work hard to eradicate the no-furniture situation in some basic schools by progressively providing affected schools with furniture from time to time adding that the provision of Metal Dual Desks to Basic Schools across the country is a Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) initiative aimed at supporting the furniture needs of schools nationwide.
He said the Government’s commitment to the education sector was not in doubt and that with the support and prayers of citizens, government would provide more infrastructure needs of schools to address challenges impeding effective teaching and learning.
He said the Government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo places great value on education expressing optimism that the desks 500 desks which will take care of 1000 pupils would go a long way to tackle some of the educational challenges in the area.
The Effutu MCE commended the Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin, for his sterling leadership with unique lobbying skills and commitment to the development of the Effutu constituency leading to many developmental projects in the area. He was particularly grateful to the MP for always combing round the corridors of Government for development projects for his people.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim stressed on frantic efforts being made by the Government to provide a decent learning environment for students to improve their performance.
He was passionate in his appeal to beneficiary schools to take good care of the desks whiles sticking to a culture of maintenance to enable government channel resources into other sectors of the educational space for national development, adding that the Assembly will support the schools with oil paint at least every two months for periodic painting and maintenance of the Metal Dual Desks.
Receiving the furniture which included Metal Dual Desks as well tables and chairs for teachers, the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Mabel Judith Micah, said the items were donated at the right time to solve the problems infrastructure challenges in most of the schools in the Municipality.
She said her office would ensure all schools practiced the maintenance culture to preserve the items, and would intensify monitoring and supervision in schools to improve teaching and learning.
