Massive Tragedy Unfolds as Over 300 illegal Miners Trapped in AngloGold’s Obuasi Mine Shaft | Details

Approximately 300 illegal miners are currently trapped inside one of the shafts belonging to AngloGold’s Obuasi Mines in Anwiam, located in the Obuasi East District of the Ashanti Region.

These miners entered the underground shaft with the intention of finding gold deposits, but unfortunately, they became unable to exit when all escape routes were closed off.

Ali Tijani, one of the illegal miners, shared their plight with Citi News, revealing that some of his fellow miners are now unconscious due to the lack of food and water.

In desperation, they reached out to their families and are now hoping that authorities will intervene to rescue them from their dire situation.

Tijani voiced his concerns, stating, “We went to the AngloGold mine to work, but the place was closed down. For four days now, we have been trapped inside without any access to food or water.

Despite our desperate pleas, they refuse to provide us with water. We are a group of around 300 individuals who ventured into the mine voluntarily.

We are calling on the District Chief Executive (DCE) to come to our aid. We have no other means of employment, which is why we resorted to mining to support ourselves and our families.”

Unfortunately, despite the gravity of the situation, attempts to obtain a comment from AngloGold officials regarding this incident have proven fruitless thus far. The fate of these trapped miners hangs in the balance, leaving them and their families in a state of uncertainty and anxiety.

It is essential for the relevant authorities to swiftly respond to this distressing situation, coordinating efforts to rescue the trapped miners and provide them with the necessary assistance.

Their lives and well-being are at stake, underscoring the urgency of immediate action in order to prevent any further harm or loss.
