In 2016 during the New Patriotic Party campaign, we made a specific promise on page 31 of our Manifesto and I quote “One District One Factory Initiative”: In collaboration with the private sector, the NPP will implement the “One District, One Factory” Initiative.
This District Industrialization Programme will ensure an even, spatial spread of industries ”Below is the breakdown of the status of this flagship initiative as at 30th September, 2020 with a total No. of Jobs created at 150,000.
– No. Of Companies
– No. Completed and operating
– 108- No. Under construction
– 148- Pipeline – 22
– Interest Subsidies paid by GoG -GHc213Million
– Duty exemptions and waivers
– GHc205Million-Funds Mobilised from Private Financial institutions – GHc2.3Billlion
This remains the most deliberate and aggressive approach to industrializing Ghana since Kwame Nkrumah and we shld be grateful to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for this vision.
NB: Our opponent the NDC collapsed and sold about 300 state owned factories and companies through the Divestiture Implementation Act.
If this government is allowed to continue, even in the midst of all the challenges, we could triple this total figure of industries which wld be a direct response to our employment situation.
The employment challenge is as a result of a reverse of all President Kuffour achieved after the NDC took office.
It’s an accumulation of at least 300,000 young people per Anum without a job for a period of 8years and wld require a pragmatic long term approach in dealing with it once and for all.
The foundation is laid, the platform to leap is ready, what we need is to go beyond the 8years to firm up and have the full realization of the vision.
