A man who worked as a licensed taxi driver in Dunkwa-on-offin has been jailed for 14 years after he was found guilty of raping a vulnerable young teenager.
Emmanuel Salifu, aged 37, was charged with multiple count of offenses in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality.
Following a trial at Dunkwa Circuit Court, he was found guilty of rape and was jailed.
On April 12, 2023, Emmanuel was working as a taxi driver in the town when he collected the victim, a girl in her young teens, from Compound to Atechem a suburb of Dunkwa-on-offin.
According to the police prosecutor in court, the driver took the teenager as a lone passenger but failed to alight her at her preferred destination Atechem but drove her to Akyimpim Road by threatening her with a knife when she attempted to scream for help.
He then threatened to kill her with a knife and raped her in the car along the road.
After the act, he then persuaded the girl to be his lover and mention his name as Emmanuel Saliva.
The family of the victim then reported the incident to Dunkwa Divisional Police Command and they immediately search Facebook profiles with the given name and got some pictures for identification by the young woman, who then verified his photo.
The police investigation of his picture leads to his arrest.
On Wednesday 12th April, the suspect in court pleaded guilty to all charges and begged for mercy from the Judge.
The Circuit court judge then sentenced him to 14 years in prison the same age as a girl.
